A happy former client recommended us as architects to the young family who bought this listed building. A key element of our design is the extensive use of glass in connecting the children’s bedrooms with the property’s main corridor. Our playful approach is the outcome of enthusiastic teamwork between ourselves, the self-build client and building control.
The unusual space we created gives constant glimpses of the sky and surroundings as you walk up and down the ancient stone steps. In this property, old and new sit happily together in a sylvan setting which belies its middle-of-town location.
Building conservation doesn’t have to mean no change, and working with something old doesn’t preclude creating something new. Each period can bring its own contribution.
